ZTE published its 2025 sustainability report, reporting a 46% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions compared to its 2021 baseline. The company cut purchased electricity consumption by 16.3% and improved comprehensive energy efficiency by 28.39% over the same period. On-site photovoltaic installations generated 39.22 million kWh annually, and the company purchased 33,700 Green Electricity Certificates covering 33.69 million kWh. ZTE invested over CNY 70 million in environmental upgrades across R&D, manufacturing, and administration. The report also highlights that ZTE's energy-efficient telecom technologies help operators globally save more than 10 billion kWh per year. The company operates three national-level green factories and deployed AI-powered supply chain systems across 20,000 partners. ZTE maintained a Low ESG Risk rating from Sustainalytics for the fourth consecutive year and aligned reporting with CSRD and ESRS standards. The results support the company's SBTi-validated 1.5°C pathway.

46% drop in scope 1 and 2 since 2021 is solid. The 39 GWh from on site solar plus 33.7 GWh from certificates shows they are actually buying clean power not just claiming offsets.

910 million kWh total energy use. That is a lot of juice. Would be useful to know how much of that is from the grid vs self generated. The solar covers about 4% of total consumption.

Worth noting they aligned with CSRD and ESRS. That is becoming the de facto standard for EU facing firms. The SBTi validation adds credibility but the real test is if they maintain the 14.3% annual reduction rate.

The 10 billion kWh savings claim for operator networks is interesting. Would like to see the methodology behind that. 5G Advanced and liquid cooling can definitely help but those numbers need independent verification.

CNY 70 million on environmental upgrades is about USD 9.7 million. For a company their size that is not huge but the energy cost savings of nearly CNY 100 million show the payback is real.
