ZPMC opens smart workshop in Nantong, cuts carbon per unit by 10% for port and offshore equipment
markets.businessinsider.comShanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) inaugurated a new digital and intelligent structural fabrication workshop in Nantong, Jiangsu, as part of its push toward green manufacturing for port machinery and offshore engineering components. The facility uses automated welding, laser cutting, and AGV logistics to produce housings and gearboxes, with robotic welding coverage at 84% and a 30% boost in monthly capacity. ZPMC also claims a 10% reduction in carbon emissions per unit of output and over 1,000 tonnes of annual scrap savings through smarter offcut management. The company unveiled 20 new products at the launch, including a green low-carbon gear reducer and a dual-speed planetary gearbox, several of which break overseas technology monopolies. The workshop is the first intelligent-manufacturing benchmark among CCCC's major innovation demonstration projects, and ZPMC says it integrates a zero-carbon, fully digital production system. The event included agreements with six companies and three universities, highlighting a broader industry shift toward digitalization and lower-carbon heavy equipment manufacturing.
