Zefiro Methane Corp. and the Well Done Foundation signed a nationwide agreement to plug leaking orphaned oil and gas wells across the US, starting with the Deep Fork project in Oklahoma. The partnership combines the Foundation's regulatory and engineering expertise with Zefiro's drilling resources to expand remediation into more states. A key part of the deal is co-developing verified carbon offsets from the methane reductions. The two groups previously worked together on the Bear Run project in Pennsylvania, which cut over 23,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent. Zefiro also generated the first certified offsets from an orphaned well under the American Carbon Registry in Oklahoma. With public funding already secured, including a $19.6 million contract in Ohio, the partnership aims to scale up well plugging using both grants and private carbon finance. Methane abatement from orphan wells is a growing segment of the voluntary carbon market.

Good to see a partnership that actually has field experience. The Bear Run project numbers look solid. But scaling from 18 states to nationwide will need more than one Oklahoma project to prove the model works at volume.
