Optical fiber manufacturer YOFC reported a 13.12% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions intensity for 2025. The company cut total carbon emissions by over 86,000 tonnes, supported by its SmartCarbon tracking platform and third-party verification from Bureau Veritas. Beyond emissions, the company reduced energy consumption intensity by 4.54% and water consumption intensity by 28.54%. These gains were achieved through automation and the development of low-attenuation hollow-core optical fiber designed to lower energy costs for AI infrastructure.

Intensity targets are a common way to report progress during growth phases, but the 2055 carbon neutrality goal is a long horizon. The real test will be the 2028 target of a 50% reduction from 2021 levels. That requires a much steeper curve than a 13% annual drop.

A 28% drop in water consumption intensity is a massive jump for a manufacturing plant. Usually, that means they installed a closed-loop recycling system or changed their cooling tech. I wonder what the CAPEX was for those upgrades.
