Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable (YOFC) reported a 13.12% year on year reduction in greenhouse gas emissions intensity for 2025. The company cut total carbon emissions by over 86,000 tonnes, utilizing a proprietary SmartCarbon platform for third party verified tracking. Beyond emissions, YOFC reduced energy and water consumption intensity while expanding its global production footprint. The company is targeting a 50% reduction in emissions intensity by 2028 and full carbon neutrality by 2055.

Intensity targets are a common move, but they can hide absolute emission growth if the company scales fast enough. It is good they listed the absolute cut of 86,333 tonnes to give some actual context.
The hollow core fiber part is more interesting for the grid. Lower attenuation means fewer repeaters and less power needed for long haul data. Did they specify the actual energy savings per kilometer of deployment?
A 4.54% drop in energy intensity is modest. I wonder how much of this is coming from new automated plants versus actually retrofitting the older facilities in China.
YOFC is using a self developed platform for carbon tracking. Third party verification from Bureau Veritas makes it more credible, but the real test is if these standards move into the 42 industry standards they helped write.
