Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has introduced a 325,000 DWT dual-fuel very large ore carrier (VLOC) designed to cut carbon intensity on long-haul iron ore routes between Brazil, Australia, and China. The ship uses LNG alongside conventional fuel to meet IMO carbon rules like EEXI and CII, while maximizing cargo payload to reduce emissions per ton-mile. The design targets major mining and steel clients, combining high cargo efficiency with dual-fuel flexibility. Operators can switch between LNG and fuel oil based on cost and port availability. This positions Yangzijiang to capture more orders in the growing market for low-carbon bulk carriers, as shipping faces tighter carbon regulations and potential carbon pricing.
