A new climate assessment for the Wressle oil site expansion near Scunthorpe reveals the project could emit over one million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. The majority of these emissions stem from the combustion of the oil and gas produced, categorized as scope 3 emissions. Developer Egdon Resources argues the impact is minor when compared to global carbon budgets. However, the project has faced legal challenges following the Finch ruling, which requires planners to consider the downstream emissions of onshore fossil fuel production.
