Worthing's district heating network is getting £8m in funding through the Heat Network Investment Project. Developer Hemiko will use the money to expand the network and add air source heat pumps at the energy centre. The network already supplies Worthing Hospital, with Splashpoint Leisure Centre and the Pavilion Theatre expected to connect in early 2027. The project is part of Adur and Worthing councils' plan to cut emissions from their buildings. It has already allowed several life-expired gas boilers to be removed, though five council buildings in Worthing and seven in Adur still rely on gas. The councils report overall carbon emissions have fallen by 54.25% since 2019/20, and the latest carbon management report goes before the joint strategic committee on October 6.
