Worley pre-FEED for Abeona CCS project: repurposing Dutch North Sea infrastructure for CO2 storage
offshore-mag.comPetrogas E&P Netherlands has selected Worley to perform pre-front-end engineering design (pre-FEED) for the Abeona CCS project in the Dutch North Sea. The project aims to build a CO2 transport and storage network for industrial emitters in the North Sea Canal Area and other Dutch regions, using both repurposed offshore assets and new facilities. One option under study is reusing an existing pipeline to move captured CO2 from the Port of Amsterdam to depleted offshore reservoirs for permanent storage. Repurposing existing pipelines and platforms could lower capital costs and speed up deployment compared to building entirely new systems. Worley's work will focus on establishing a solid technical basis, reducing execution risk, and providing cost estimates for later phases. This project is part of a broader push to turn the North Sea into a carbon storage hub, leveraging depleted reservoirs and existing energy infrastructure.
