The World Steel Association has chosen Seoul, South Korea to host its 2027 annual meeting. It will be the first time the gathering is held in Seoul since 2005. POSCO Group Chairman Chang In-hwa helped promote the bid and urged member companies to attend next year's meeting. At the association's recent meeting in New Delhi, executives discussed guidelines for low-carbon steel products and international standardization of carbon emission allocation methods. POSCO also held talks with JSW Group about a joint venture to build an integrated steel mill in India, a high-growth market for steel. Korea ranked sixth in global crude steel production last year and first in per capita steel consumption at 844 kilograms, according to POSCO Holdings. The 2027 meeting gives the country a chance to shape the steel industry's sustainability agenda.
