A study by ODI Global analyzed 1,300 airports, finding that Dubai International and London Heathrow are among the highest CO2 emitters globally. Dubai International leads the list with 23.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, driven by its role as a massive long-haul super-hub. Across the tracked airports, 34.6 million flights generated over 1 billion tonnes of CO2 in 2023. The data highlights the significant environmental footprint of major aviation hubs and the challenges of achieving net zero in long-haul travel.
