Eni has completed installation of the Douglas CCS platform in Liverpool Bay, described as the first purpose-built offshore platform dedicated to carbon capture and storage. The structure will act as the offshore hub for the HyNet industrial decarbonisation cluster, receiving CO2 captured from industrial sites across North West England and North Wales. The platform includes a 1,885-tonne topside, a 1,755-tonne jacket, and 730 tonnes of foundation piles. Captured CO2 will move through existing offshore pipelines, repurposed for CO2 transport, and be stored permanently in depleted natural gas reservoirs. The project combines new build with reuse of legacy energy infrastructure, which is central to its approach and worth watching for anyone tracking CCS delivery at scale.
