World Bank approves $200 million for Thailand low carbon cities and carbon market development
miragenews.comThe World Bank has approved a $200 million project to help Thailand build low carbon cities and develop carbon market infrastructure. The Low Carbon Cities and Carbon Market Development Project will let public organizations upgrade buildings and equipment without paying upfront costs. Private energy service companies will finance the work, and public agencies pay over time. The project targets 180 MW of rooftop solar and 448 GWh in annual electricity savings across schools, hospitals, and industrial estates. A key part of the plan is linking carbon credits to markets through Krungthai Bank, which will aggregate credits and connect them with buyers. The Export Import Bank of Thailand will provide financing to qualified energy service companies. The project starts with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand. The World Bank says the model is designed to be replicated across other cities and government agencies, turning Thailand's net zero goals into actual projects.
