Woodside trims production outlook and pulls back from Texas ammonia plant as clean energy spending retreats
oedigital.comWoodside Energy lowered the top end of its 2026 production forecast to 181 million barrels of oil equivalent and said it will reduce investment in the Beaumont New Ammonia plant in Texas. The plant ran at 69% of capacity in the quarter, held back by third party feedstock availability and a 30 day shutdown after a safety incident. Woodside said a strategic review found slower customer demand for lower carbon ammonia and shifting policy frameworks. Woodside acquired the plant for $2.35 billion in 2024 as part of a broader clean energy push. Since then it has dropped its longer term emissions target and cancelled $5 billion in planned lower carbon spending under CEO Liz Westcott. The company now plans to focus on the long delayed Browse LNG project off Western Australia, which it says has drawn interest from data centre operators, critical minerals producers and potential equity partners. Quarterly revenue rose to $4.28 billion from $3.36 billion a year earlier, helped by a 40% jump in average realised prices. Production volumes fell 9% year on year but rose 12% from the prior quarter. Woodside kept its 2026 capital expenditure outlook at $4 billion to $4.5 billion.
