WindEurope has asked the EU to use the upcoming review of the Emissions Trading System to push more money toward electrification. The group wants a clear and predictable carbon price signal that actually drives investment in renewable power and grid upgrades, not just compliance trading. The idea is to make sure ETS revenue goes to things like heat pumps, electric vehicles, and industrial electrification rather than getting lost in general budgets. This is a practical ask. Right now the ETS puts a price on carbon but does not guarantee that the money flows back into the things that cut emissions on the ground. WindEurope wants the review to fix that link. If the EU ties ETS revenue directly to electrification projects, it could speed up the shift away from fossil fuels in heating, transport, and industry. The question is whether member states will agree to earmark that cash or keep it in general funds.
