Wild Horse Reserves in Central Europe and Soil Carbon Sequestration
environewsnigeria.comA new wild horse reserve has opened near Loukov in the Czech Republic, marking the 18th site established by the European Wildlife conservation organization. These reserves use large herbivores to restore biodiversity and improve water retention in the landscape. The project highlights the role of wild ungulates in climate protection. Unlike livestock, these animals help sequester carbon in the soil, with some research suggesting grazing ecosystems can be more effective for global carbon capture than forests alone.
