Westfalia Fruit, the global avocado grower and supplier, has updated its sustainability strategy around four priorities: efficient water use, carbon management, waste reduction, and biodiversity protection. The company says renewable electricity across its operations reached 58% in 2025, up from 18% in 2021, and that Scope 2 emissions fell about 50% over the same period. Several packhouses in the UK, Peru, Chile, the US, and France now run on 100% renewable power, supported by on-site solar and purchased renewable electricity certificates.

Net zero by 2049 is a long runway, and the carbon in trees and soil baselines are early stage. Would like to see whether that includes cold storage and processing loads or just the easier sites. Also, on-site solar plus purchased certificates are different things. But carbon management as a priority without a near-term emissions reduction target, only net zero by 2049, leaves a lot of room for delay. The Aconcagua water project is the more concrete piece because it involves shared infrastructure and multiple producers, which is where water risk actually gets solved.

The packaging shift to 100% recyclable at South Africa fulfilment centres by end of 2026 is a smaller, verifiable step. That kind of site-level commitment is easier to trust than a 2049 net zero target.
