Western Ghats Panel Proposes Carbon Credit Corporation for Coffee Growers
timesofindia.indiatimes.comThe Karnataka State Western Ghats Conservation Task Force has proposed setting up a Karnataka Carbon Credit Corporation to help coffee growers earn from carbon credits. The plan suggests a 'one tree, one carbon credit' model for estates with trees older than five years and at least 40% green density. Credits would be sold through the Indian Carbon Market, with most revenue going directly to farmers. The task force also criticized the current ESA notification based on outdated satellite imagery and called for ground surveys using Cadastral Mapping and LiDAR. It proposed a separate Western Ghats Policy and Green Bonds for regional development. The state government will discuss this in the upcoming Belagavi session.
