West Sussex County Council says its Energy Reinvestment Fund has cut annual energy bills by more than £63,000 across schools, libraries and fire stations. Completed lighting and heating control upgrades are expected to save 74 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year and about 1,608 tonnes over the life of the equipment. The fund works as a revolving pot. Projects must pay back their costs within ten years and meet lifetime carbon savings targets, then the savings are reinvested in further upgrades. Six more projects are in delivery, which would bring total expected savings to £76,305 a year and 87 tonnes of CO2 annually. The council set up the fund after the national Salix Recycling Fund closed. The projects include LED lighting at multiple schools and libraries, plus heating controls at Angmering School.
