West Mercia Police has won the Best Net Zero Procurement Initiative award at the Go Awards for embedding sustainability into its contracting processes. The force and the Police and Crime Commissioner's office worked together to require suppliers to set carbon baselines and net zero targets. Over 25 suppliers have already committed, aiming to cut emissions across the supply chain. The award highlights how public sector procurement can drive real decarbonization. The force plans to expand whole-life carbon assessments and deepen supplier partnerships. This is a concrete example of how government entities can use purchasing power to reduce emissions, not just talk about targets.
