Welsh £200m Carbon Capture Plant Deferred After English Communities Left Out of Consultation
rhyljournal.co.ukFlintshire County Council has deferred a decision on a £200m carbon capture plant at the Parc Adfer waste site in Connah's Quay after it emerged that communities in England were not consulted. The plant would process 232,000 tonnes of waste per year and capture around 241,000 tonnes of CO2, using the Hynet pipeline to store it in empty gas wells under the Irish Sea. It is intended to be Wales' first carbon negative waste to energy facility and part of the Welsh Government's Carbon Budget Three plan. Local councillors argued that English villages such as Burton, Shotwick and Puddington are closer to the site than parts of Connah's Quay itself. The committee deferred the application to allow cross-border consultation. Planning officers said the applicant, Enfinium, had addressed concerns about noise, pollution and the River Dee, but members wanted residents across the border to have their say.
