Waste carbon to jet fuel: Aether Fuels hits ASTM spec at 2.5 barrels per day
interestingengineering.comAether Fuels, based in the US and Singapore, says its Aurora platform has made ASTM spec synthetic jet fuel from landfill-derived renewable natural gas and captured industrial CO2. The integrated demo line produced 2.5 barrels per day using a Fischer-Tropsch reactor from RTI. Independent testing by AmSpec confirmed the fuel meets FT-SPK requirements under ASTM D7566, which allows up to 50 percent blending with conventional kerosene without changes to aircraft fuel systems or airport infrastructure. Aether says lifecycle emissions could be more than 70 percent lower than conventional jet fuel, though that number depends on how the RNG and captured CO2 are accounted for. The company is now planning Project Beacon in Singapore, a 50 barrel per day facility that would be about 20 times larger than the demo. That is still small in SAF terms, but it moves the technology one step closer to commercial scale.
