A new report from the Washington Department of Ecology shows a 0.5% drop in greenhouse gas emissions from 2021 to 2022. While the state credits renewable energy and hydropower for the decline, transportation and building emissions continued to rise, complicating the path to 2030 targets. The state faces a steep climb to reach its goal of 51 million metric tons by 2030. Discussions center on the effectiveness of the Climate Commitment Act and the Clean Fuel Standard in driving actual reductions versus expanding government administration.
