Wasco's ESG approach: energy security, emissions cuts, and a 670-hectare forest restoration plan
klsescreener.comMalaysian energy services firm Wasco took home Best Performing Company by Sector for energy at The Edge Malaysia ESG Awards 2026. The company says its sustainability work focuses on what it can directly control: energy efficiency, renewable energy use, and tighter emissions management. One example is in Qatar, where efforts are reducing the operational carbon footprint even though switching a diesel-dependent site to grid power is taking longer than planned. Wasco also talks about the limits of pushing Scope 3 reductions onto smaller vendors, arguing they need coaching rather than mandates. Separately, its Wasco Forest restoration project reports an 87 percent survival rate for 160,000 native trees planted across 100 hectares, and the return of the endangered Malayan tapir. Phase 2 expands the project by 670 hectares and adds an on-site nursery. The CEO says climate risk and double materiality will increasingly shape capital allocation.
