Wakefield Council has approved a 35 hectare solar farm at Owlers Farm, despite local objections regarding green belt land and agricultural loss. The project is expected to reduce annual carbon emissions by 8,600 tonnes and provide renewable energy for approximately 6,000 homes. The development will operate for 40 years, after which the site will be decommissioned and restored to agricultural use. This approval aligns with the council's 2019 pledge to reach carbon neutrality by 2036.
