The initiative focuses on deploying electric vessels and installing shore-side battery swapping and charging infrastructure to reduce maritime emissions. This project aims to create a scalable electrification network for vessels at berth and under propulsion. Battery swapping at scale for ships is a massive engineering lift. I want to see the actual power requirements for these shore-side hubs. Can the local grids in Guangdong actually handle those peak loads without major upgrades?

The tech is one thing, but the standards are where this usually fails. If they can actually standardize the charging and swapping interfaces across different ports in the Bay Area, it creates a real incentive for ship owners to switch.

Basically a push for electric corridors in the GBA. They are looking at batteries now but mentioning methanol and ammonia for the long haul. Worth watching to see if the infrastructure actually gets built or if it stays as an MoU.
