Vow ASA's subsidiary Scanship has signed an exclusive collaboration with Danieli Corus to develop biocarbon solutions for integrated steel production. The partnership combines Vow's pyrolysis technology, which converts biomass and waste into biocarbon, with Danieli Corus's expertise in ironmaking and steelmaking. The goal is to replace part of the fossil carbon used in blast furnaces with net-zero biocarbon. Initially, the collaboration targets steel producers in Brazil and India. However, there are no firm orders yet, and future deliveries depend on customer demand and separate contracts. This deal opens a new channel for Vow's biocarbon technology in low-carbon steelmaking as the industry seeks to cut CO2 emissions. The company's stock currently holds a Hold rating with a NOK1.60 price target.

Nice to see biocarbon getting a real industrial channel. The Brazil and India focus makes sense since those are big steel producers. But no firm orders yet, so this is more about market access than actual volumes. Still worth watching.

The technology makes sense for blast furnaces, but the real question is cost per tonne of biocarbon versus coal. If they can't get close to parity, steelmakers won't switch unless regulations force it. Also need to see the supply chain for biomass in those regions.

Industrial heat is a tough nut to crack. Pyrolysis to biocarbon is one path, but the integration into existing blast furnaces will be the hard part. Retrofits always take longer than planned. I'd want to see a pilot project before getting excited.
