V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port) in India has reduced net carbon emissions by 45% through renewable energy and green infrastructure, according to its first sustainability report. Renewable energy now offsets nearly 94% of the port's energy consumption, and carbon intensity per tonne of cargo has halved over four years. The port also launched India's first green hydrogen pilot project at a major port and received Scope-2 Emission Free Port certification. The port's transformation was documented in an IIM Calcutta case study. Additional initiatives include a partnership with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya for research and logistics education, and the launch of PortGPT, an enterprise AI application for operational efficiency. These projects align with India's broader push for sustainable maritime infrastructure and grid decarbonization.
