Vizag Railway Division Earns Carbon Footprint Certificate for Recycling 97,295 kg of Waste
thehansindia.comThe Visakhapatnam Division of South Coast Railway has received a carbon footprint saving certificate from ScrapQ Hub Private Limited for its waste management efforts during 2025-26. The division segregated and recycled 97,295 kg of recyclable waste, preventing it from going to landfills. Using the US EPA WARM methodology, this initiative saved an estimated 300.25 metric tonnes of CO2 equivalent, comparable to removing 105 cars from the road for a year. The certificate was presented to Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra. This recognition aligns with India's Swachh Bharat Mission, Mission LiFE, and the Net Zero 2070 vision. It highlights the railway's commitment to circular economy practices and sustainable waste management. The achievement demonstrates how public sector units can contribute to climate goals through operational changes, even if the absolute numbers are modest compared to larger emissions sources.
