Visibuilt raises 3.34 million euros for mycelium paving materials to cut carbon in construction
eu-startups.comDanish biotech startup Visibuilt has raised 3.34 million euros in seed funding to develop mycelium-based paving materials that could replace carbon-intensive concrete and asphalt. The company is working on biobased binders for construction, aiming to cut emissions from one of the heaviest industrial sectors. The round was co-led by EIFO and Unconventional Ventures, with participation from Proptechfonden and existing backer EMDFonden. Visibuilt plans to use the capital to move from lab pilots toward larger scale validation and industry tests. The company is part of a growing wave of European startups targeting low-carbon construction materials. So far in 2026, EU-Startups has tracked about 35 million euros in disclosed funding for biobased, waste-derived, and circular building material companies across the continent. The challenge now is whether these materials can compete on cost and performance with conventional concrete and asphalt in real world projects.
