Virgin Media O2 has published a Green Transition Plan aiming for net zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2040. The telecom operator targets a 90% reduction in direct Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, building on a 63% cut already achieved since 2020. It also plans to halve Scope 3 supply chain emissions and source 100% carbon-free electricity from UK sources. The strategy goes beyond network operations. Virgin Media O2 wants to double sales of refurbished phones and double handset recycling through its O2 Recycle program by 2030. It also plans to expand local device reuse to 30 UK cities. The company acknowledges that hitting its goals depends on broader grid decarbonization and government support for electric commercial fleets. The plan includes 14 strategic measures covering energy efficiency, climate resilience for broadband and mobile networks, and supply chain emissions cuts. Former UN Climate Champion Nigel Topping said credible transition plans are becoming a defining feature of responsible business leadership.
