Vietnam launches domestic carbon exchange at Hanoi Stock Exchange for emissions trading
en.vneconomy.vnVietnam officially launched its domestic carbon exchange on June 29, 2026, at the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX). The first product traded is the VN2025 greenhouse gas emission quota, covering 511 million tons of CO2 equivalent for the 2025-2026 compliance period. Trading ends December 24, 2027. The exchange will handle both emission quotas and carbon credits, with six securities companies and over 100 emission sources participating initially. The government has waived fees during the pilot phase through 2028 to encourage participation. The exchange is part of Vietnam's plan to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. It connects the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, and financial infrastructure providers like BIDV and the Vietnam Securities Depository. This gives businesses a transparent mechanism to trade allowances and credits while incentivizing emission reductions.
