Vietnam's forestry sector is moving beyond timber toward carbon credit trading. The country transferred 10.3 million tonnes of CO2 from the North Central region to the World Bank, earning $51.5 million. This deal illustrates how forest protection and restoration can generate revenue through verified carbon credits. Forestry carbon credits are created through activities like forest conservation, replanting, and sustainable management. They allow international buyers to offset emissions while providing financial resources for local communities. Vietnam is now working on a legal framework to support these transactions at scale, which could unlock further investment in forest-based climate solutions.
