Vietnam electronics suppliers face new ESG, carbon and packaging rules to keep global orders
vietnamnews.vnVietnamese electronics manufacturers are now expected to meet environmental, social and governance standards, carbon reporting requirements, clean energy targets and packaging rules if they want to keep supplying international brands. At a recent seminar by VEIA and SGS, industry speakers said sustainability criteria are becoming a condition for getting on supplier lists, not just a long term goal. The main hurdles are access to 100% clean electricity, weak data collection systems, unclear recycled material definitions and limited green finance. For EU exports, companies face the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. Heavy metal controls started in September, and packaging with recyclability below 70% will be banned from 2030. The advice for factories is to start small. Pick one product line, calculate its carbon footprint, build a standard reporting database, then expand. That approach keeps the transition manageable and gives suppliers a clearer path to staying in global supply chains.
