Verde Resources Turns Roads Into Carbon Assets: Biochar Asphalt, Verified Carbon Removal Credits, and the Ergon Deal
globenewswire.comVerde Resources (OTCQB: VRDR) is pushing biochar-infused asphalt as a way to store carbon in roads and parking lots. In April 2025 it produced what it says were the first independently verified carbon removal credits from asphalt, using a cold-mix test section at the NCAT track in Alabama and crediting it through Puro.earth. That pilot was small, eight credits, but it set up the commercial push. Since then Verde has signed a 10-year commercialization agreement with Ergon Asphalt & Emulsions for the US, an MOU with Singapore's Highway International for international roads and airfields, and a collaboration with Isometric for carbon credit certification. It also published an ASTM Environmental Product Declaration for its engineered biochar. The timing matters: CORSIA's second phase starts January 2027, which could increase demand for eligible removal credits. The open question is whether the credits scale beyond pilot volume and whether the economics work without relying solely on carbon revenue.
