Vema Hydrogen and CHARBONE Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to build a hydrogen production and processing hub in Quebec. The partnership combines Vema's Engineered Mineral Hydrogen production with CHARBONE's purification and distribution networks to serve industrial gas customers. This project aims to reduce transport costs by creating a localized well-to-market supply chain. The infrastructure is designed to support a variety of low-carbon applications, including industrial gases, e-fuels, and sustainable aviation and maritime fuels.

The MOU sounds good, but I want to see the actual capacity numbers. How many tonnes per day are we talking about? Without a specific volume, it is hard to tell if this actually moves the needle for Quebec industrial demand or if it is just a small pilot.

Agreed. I am also curious about the carbon intensity certification for this Engineered Mineral Hydrogen. If they want to hit those aviation and maritime markets, they will need rigorous accounting to qualify for the subsidies and credits that make these projects viable.

Reducing transport costs is the right move. Moving hydrogen is a nightmare and eats the margins. If they can actually localize the supply for existing industrial users, the payback period becomes much more attractive.

Basically, Vema provides the raw hydrogen and CHARBONE handles the cleaning and shipping. It is a logical split of labor to get the product to market faster.
