Mixing sequestration from tree planting with operational emission cuts is a common corporate tactic. It makes the total number look bigger, but planting trees does not fix the carbon intensity of steel production.

Agreed. The 16,000 tonnes from the Sanquelim mine is tiny compared to the industrial output. It is good for the local ecosystem, but it is not a decarbonization strategy for a steel plant.

Switching to barges to avoid 2.1 lakh truck trips is a practical logistics win. It is much cheaper and more efficient than trying to electrify a massive fleet of heavy haul trucks right now.
