Vedanta Group cuts 2.5 MT carbon emissions from mining and steel operations in five years
etvbharat.comVedanta Group's iron ore mining and steel business, VISL, has reduced, avoided, or sequestered nearly 2.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions over the last five years. The company adopted electric vehicles, waste heat recovery power generation, and sustainable logistics including barge transport that eliminated an estimated 210,000 truck trips in FY26 alone. VISL generates 100 MW of waste heat recovery power at its plants in Goa and Bokaro, avoiding 2.4 MT of CO2. The company also restored a 100-hectare reclaimed mine in Goa that now hosts 750,000 trees sequestering 16,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. These efforts are part of Vedanta's broader push to decarbonize heavy industry and align with national climate goals.
