Vedanta cuts metals emissions intensity 15% since FY21 with renewables and biomass

Vedanta Group reported a 15% reduction in metals emissions intensity from FY21 to FY26, dropping from 6.45 to 5.44 tCO2e per tonne of metal. The company increased renewable energy consumption by over 50% year on year to nearly 4 billion units in FY26, equivalent to about 454 MW of round the clock renewable capacity. This helped avoid roughly 3 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. Vedanta also used 365 kilotonnes of biomass as alternative fuel, with Talwandi Sabo Power plant using biomass for over 5% of its fuel mix. On the offsetting side, Vedanta has planted nearly 4 million trees since FY21, targeting 7 million by 2030 under the World Economic Forum's 1 Trillion Trees initiative. Several subsidiaries achieved notable sustainability milestones: Hindustan Zinc became the first Indian mining company to join ICMM and ranked number one globally in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2026. Vedanta Aluminium launched its Restora low carbon aluminium product. The company also maintained net water positive status across multiple operations.
