Vattenfall cuts embodied carbon in Clashindarroch II wind farm foundations with PFA concrete and recycled steel
energyglobal.comVattenfall completed all 14 turbine foundations at the 63 MW Clashindarroch II wind farm in Aberdeenshire in 11 weeks. The foundations use 11,256 cubic metres of lower-carbon concrete with a cement blend containing at least 25% pulverised fuel ash, which replaces part of the Portland cement. Vattenfall expects this to cut embodied carbon by around 20-30% per cubic metre. The project also uses about 1,190 tonnes of recycled reinforcing steel, roughly 85 tonnes per foundation. Concrete was produced at a temporary on-site batching facility to reduce truck deliveries and fuel use. First power is expected in summer 2027. Once operational, the 14-turbine wind farm should generate enough electricity to power about 61,500 UK homes annually.
