Vattenfall completes Clashindarroch II wind farm foundations with low-carbon concrete and recycled steel
scottishconstructionnow.comVattenfall has finished all 14 turbine foundations at its 63MW Clashindarroch II wind farm in Aberdeenshire, completing that phase in 11 weeks. The work used 11,256 cubic metres of lower-carbon concrete and around 1,190 tonnes of recycled reinforcing steel. The concrete mix includes at least 25% pulverised fuel ash, which reduces the Portland cement content and is expected to cut embodied carbon by 20-30% per cubic metre. Concrete was produced at an on-site batching plant to shorten delivery distances and lower transport emissions. The first foundation was poured on 30 June 2026. Construction now moves to the next phase, with first power expected in summer 2027. The 14-turbine project will have an installed capacity of 63MW, enough to supply the equivalent of around 61,500 UK homes each year. Vattenfall says the lower-carbon concrete, recycled steel, and local batching are part of how the project is reducing construction-phase emissions.
