Vattenfall has finished all 14 turbine foundations for its 63MW Clashindarroch 2 wind farm in Aberdeenshire, wrapping up the concrete work in 11 weeks. The project used around 11,256 cubic metres of lower-carbon concrete and roughly 1,190 tonnes of recycled reinforcing steel. The concrete blend replaces at least 25% of conventional Portland cement with pulverised fuel ash, cutting embodied carbon by an estimated 20 to 30% per cubic metre. A temporary on-site batching plant made the concrete locally, reducing delivery trips and transport emissions. First power is expected in summer 2027, with the 14-turbine site projected to supply the equivalent of around 61,500 UK homes annually. The milestone shows how construction-phase emissions can be trimmed without waiting for turbine technology upgrades.
