Vateris Lands €50M Offtake Deals for Carbon-Negative Construction Materials and Fertilizer
carboncredits.comUK climate tech firm Vateris has secured binding offtake agreements and letters of intent worth over €50 million in annual turnover with six companies. The deals cover GypCarb, a carbon-negative calcium carbonate for construction, and sulphate of potash (SOP) fertilizer, both made from captured industrial CO2. Partners include Holcim, Marshalls, Goldbeck, and Waypoint. The binding agreements cover volumes from a UK demonstration plant planned for 2027, while letters of intent for a larger European commercial plant in 2029 represent about 130% of its expected output. The company says GypCarb locks 44% CO2 by mass and can reduce cement use, while SOP offers a second market. However, the €50 million figure is potential annual turnover, not confirmed revenue, and the main plant LOIs are non-binding. The deals show growing commercial interest in carbon utilization, but the real test is scaling up the technology. If the 2027 demo plant proves the process works, Vateris could turn captured CO2 into profitable materials. For the carbon market, this highlights the role of CCU alongside permanent storage and removals.
