Vanguard Renewables acquires Generate Upcycle to nearly double food waste-to-gas capacity
thecooldown.comVanguard Renewables is set to acquire Generate Upcycle's North American operations, a move that would add anaerobic digestion and depackaging facilities in upstate New York and Ontario to its network. The combined platform would handle about 565,000 tons of food waste annually and produce an additional 1.1 billion cubic feet of renewable natural gas (RNG) per year. The deal is expected to close on October 1, 2026. This acquisition strengthens Vanguard's position in the organics diversion market, giving it 19 facilities across the U.S. and Canada. The Ontario assets also provide entry into Canada's Clean Fuel Regulations market. By capturing methane from food waste that would otherwise decompose in landfills, the expanded operation helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions while producing a usable fuel. As landfill capacity tightens, such projects offer a practical alternative for managing organic waste.
