Valmet to supply biomass boiler and carbon capture equipment for Louisiana Green Fuels project
bioenergy-news.comValmet will supply the biomass boiler island and flue gas cleaning systems for the Louisiana Green Fuels project in Caldwell Parish. The plant is designed to generate more than 300 MW of gross power from forestry residuals and pair it with post-combustion carbon capture and permanent geologic storage. Strategic Biofuels, the developer, says the facility will use over 3.5 million tonnes of sustainably sourced biomass per year, roughly 400 truckloads per day. The equipment package centers on a circulating fluidised bed boiler with flue gas cleaning built for fuel flexibility and reliable operation. Valmet says the scope supports the project's goal of deeply carbon-negative electricity. The captured CO2 will go into a permitted geologic reservoir. This is an early equipment order, not proof that the full project economics work. The scale of biomass logistics and the performance of the capture system will determine whether the carbon-negative claim holds up in operation.
