Valmet has been selected to supply an automation system for Finland's first CO2 liquefaction plant, built by Suomen Biovoima Oy at Auris Energia's biogas facility in Mäntsälä. The plant captures CO2 from biogas production, purifies it, and liquefies it for industrial reuse in applications like concrete production, where the carbon is permanently stored. This supports carbon capture and utilization (CCU) and circular economy goals. The Valmet DNAe Distributed Control System will automate plant operations, enable remote monitoring, and track key performance indicators. The system aims to optimize energy and raw material use while reducing manual intervention. Delivery is scheduled for November 2026, with installation in December 2026 and startup in Q1 2027. This project demonstrates how automation can scale carbon capture in industrial settings, turning emissions into a valuable product. It is a concrete example of CCU deployment in Europe, with potential for replication in other biogas facilities.
