Vallourec has secured a first-phase tubular package for the Prinos CO2 storage project offshore Greece. The project aims to convert a depleted oil field into a permanent carbon storage site with a capacity of 51.5 million tons of CO2, supporting an injection rate of up to 2.8 million tons per year. The supply includes about 3,000 tons of casing and accessories with corrosion-resistant alloys and premium connections. The Prinos project is part of a broader push to build carbon storage infrastructure in the eastern Mediterranean. By reusing existing oil and gas infrastructure, the project could lower the cost of CCS deployment in the region. Vallourec's contract adds another European CCS reference for the company, as more storage sites move from planning to procurement. For industries in Greece and nearby markets, the availability of a large storage site is a key enabler for carbon capture investments. The next steps will be the final investment decision and construction of the capture and transport network.
