Vallourec to Deliver 3,000 Tonnes of Casing Tubes for Greece's Prinos CO2 Storage Project
energynews.proVallourec has been selected by EnEarth, a subsidiary of Energean, to supply about 3,000 tonnes of premium casing tubes and accessories for the first phase of the Prinos CO2 storage project off the coast of Greece. The project aims to convert a depleted oil reservoir into a permanent CO2 storage site with a planned injection capacity of up to 2.8 million tonnes per year and a total proven and probable storage capacity of 51.5 million tonnes, according to an independent report by Netherland, Sewell & Associates. The Prinos CO2 project is recognized by the EU as a Project of Common Interest and is backed by European and Greek funding. It is expected to help decarbonize industrial activities in Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean. Vallourec will provide seamless casing tubes in carbon steel and corrosion-resistant alloy, along with VAM connections and its grease-free CLEANWELL solution, to ensure long-term well integrity for safe CO2 storage. The contract is a step forward for Vallourec's CCS business and supports the next phases of Prinos CO2 and other CCS opportunities in Europe. The project is one of the first large-scale CCS projects in Europe and the first in the Eastern Mediterranean.
