Vallourec secures pipe supply deals for Petrobras Sepia 2 and Greek Prinos CO2 storage
offshore-mag.comVallourec has won two supply contracts for offshore energy projects. The first is for Petrobras' Sepia 2 development in Brazil's Santos Basin, where the company will provide over 15,000 tonnes of sour-service line pipe and coating services. The second is for the Prinos CO2 storage project offshore Greece, where Vallourec will supply premium casing and corrosion-resistant alloy pipes for CO2 injection wells. The Prinos project is a notable step for carbon capture and storage in Europe. EnEarth plans to repurpose a depleted oil reservoir to store up to 2.8 million tonnes of CO2 per year, with an estimated total storage capacity of 51.5 million tonnes. The EU has designated it a Project of Common Interest, which brings funding and policy support. Vallourec's scope includes about 3,000 tonnes of casing and accessories, with VAM premium connections and dope-free services to reduce environmental impact. These contracts show how suppliers are serving both conventional oil and gas and emerging CCS markets. The technology for CO2 injection wells overlaps with traditional well construction, but the long-term integrity and verification requirements are different. The Prinos project will be a real-world test of whether depleted offshore reservoirs can be safely and commercially used for permanent CO2 storage.
