Valar Atomics town hall details Carbon County nuclear plans, land lease, and safety concerns
etvnews.comValar Atomics held a town hall in Price, Utah, on Sept. 29, 2026, to answer community questions about its proposed nuclear energy site on 640 acres of state trust land in Carbon County. The company has a 50-year lease with SITLA, starting at $30 per acre and rising to $625 per acre by year eight, with about $35 million in total lease payments expected. Most of that money goes to Utah public schools. The Carbon County site would be a commercial project using gas-cooled reactors and TRISO fuel, with spent fuel stored on-site in dry casks under federal licensing. Company officials also described possible future expansion that could include data centers and manufacturing. The project still needs development plans, permits, environmental reviews, and regulatory approvals before construction can begin.
